Shane Washburn · Designer
Shane helps clients find answers to their product design needs. Clients often come to Sparkfactor with a list of design requirements and desires. Shane’s job is to balance all of these needs and wants while keeping the end customer in mind. His veteran experience ranges from industrial design to building remotely operated submarines. His extensive background give Shane a flexibility to engage clients’ needs from many directions, which in turn help him find the best customer solutions.
Previously, Shane lead teams of engineers and technicians to build custom remotely operated vehicles (ROV) at Deep Ocean Engineering. This work included industrial design, mechanical engineering, hands on fabrication and assembly, field deployment, and customer training. He has also worked with a cutting edge R&D team for Sealed Air Corporation (a global packaging company).

Shane has also participated in multiple engineering competitions. He built a 150 lb walking robot to participate in robotic combat, competed in three junkyard build challenges on a TV show called “Junkyard Wars,” and worked with a team of four fabricators to complete a junkyard creation in just 10 hours.
Shane Washburn received a Bachelors of Science in Industrial Design from San Jose State University. Received a Design award from IDCA for a prototype kayak. Most recently, he worked with an internal team to launch a 1050% successful Kickstarter project called Luxi.
